Description

Predict and model the aerodynamic characteristics of missiles and other flight vehicles. Use both aerodynamic engineering codes and computational fluid dynamics to compute airframe performance. Participate in wind-tunnel tests to capture critical aerodynamic characteristics and render data into high-fidelity aerodynamic models. Duties: Compute missile airframe aerodynamic characteristics using a variety of in-house and commercial tools. Develop aeromodels for various missile and flight vehicles using APL's aerodynamic modeling architecture. Support wind-tunnel testing by providing pretest predictions, technical oversight and post test data analysis. Develop and/or support appropriate 3DoF and 6DoF flight simulation models. Participate in new business development and independent research & development initiatives. Interact with potential and current sponsors; prepare white papers and proposals for business development. Document and publish results; attend symposium and conferences to enhance the Laboratory's aerodynamic reputation and learn about new opportunities.


Requirements

Required: MS in Aeronautical or Aerospace Engineering with training in aerodynamics, vehicle control and dynamics, incompressible/compressible flow and computational fluid dynamics. Desired: Same as above with 3 to 5 years experience in airframe aerodynamics analysis, wind-tunnel testing and aerodynamic model development. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and new business development capabilities.
